The throne room of Mienai Yōsai is one of the most storied places in the realm. Generations of heroes ruled from here, their stories and decrees reshaping Ikaiguchi for generations to come. Yet, it’s also home to some of the bloodiest betrayals in the history of the islands. By katana or by dagger, emperors throughout the ages have met their abrupt ends in sight of the throne, sometimes joining their entire family in death.
As a result, upon his ascension to the throne in 1389T-K, Toko Mitsuhide founded the Honor Guard, each especially chosen from the Clans.
Life in the Honor Guard
Only the bravest Samurai are invited to this elite order. It is their duty — and their privilege — to serve the emperor himself. They might be stationed at the Invisible Fortress, dutifully watching over the emperor and his family. They might guard the Emperor Cities, those places where the emperor and his retinue stay when visiting the Rings. Some few of them may wander Ikaiguchi, hoping to keep the peace in the emperor’s name.
All of them were spared.
When the emperor sent half a million warriors to Minatoshima, the Honor Guard remained. Regardless of whether the rumors of shapes in the mist are true, one thing is undeniable: only the smallest fraction of the warriors returned home . Now, they have a choice to make: redouble their loyalty to the emperor, or attempt to return to their clans, where they are needed more than ever.
