Nearly two thousand years after the Crucible of Jade had sacrificed countless of their number to summon the Shin’rei to Ikaiguchi, the organization had changed much. Calling themselves the Hisuideshi or the Order of Cranes, they now acted in the service of the Jade Crane, an enigmatic figure at the center of their organization. Believing themselves responsible for the onslaught of the Shin’rei, they put it on themselves to scatter them.
Gathering at the Tree of Iron, Tetsu-Kashiwa, where once the Shin’rei had forged their weapons, the Order of Cranes once again sacrificed themselves, calling forth, the long-dead priests who sacrificed themselves during the First Age were brought back as spirits. In their ethereal forms they fell upon the Shin’rei one by one, tearing their godly aspects away from their corporeal bodies and banishing them from existence.
In the personal chambers of the Jade Crane, it is written that this act forever fractured the boundary between existence and the void, allowing darkness to seep through the cracks.
