As wars raged overseas, the Sorano dynasty withdrew from international relations, leading an increasingly isolationist Ikaiguchi. This lasted for hundreds of years, until the reign of Emperor Daisetsu.
Longing for a return to the days of trade with other nations, this emperor set about arranging marriages for his three daughters with nobles from neighboring countries. Unfortunately, his daughters had different ideas.
Unwilling to be married off, the three women conspired to murder their father. In 831 T-K, on what would become known as the Night of the Feather Blades, the emperor was slain. His twin sons, each backed by different clans and nobles, struggled with deploying the politics of the court to their favour, and, with no clear ruler, the fracture spread across Ikaiguchi. Political gambits and displays of influence were the perfect smokescreen for the three sisters, who were anything but idle in gathering power for themselves.
