Fire is an inherent property of war. Even the legends attest to this, as they paint the Shin’rei Saion, the Lord of War, as embodying fire. According to these same legends, the Endless War meant endless fire. As it raged onward, the Shin’rei and their ancient foe tore apart more and more of the earth in their battles, burning swathes of Ikaiguchi, leaving them dead and blighted. Some, like Zetsubō Kurushimi, have yet to heal.
Others were saved. Advocates of the natural world followed behind the battles at a safe distance and replanted the world in their wake. Carefully cultivating and seeding the land, they ensured that Ikaiguchi’s skin would survive the battle for its soul. Over time, this loose group of devotees became an organised group, and settled in the southwest of Ikaiguchi. Many of their traditions and descendants became present in what would become the Yasei, and indeed the first Kinomama Tree dates back to this period.
