In peacetime, the Shin’rei were benevolent. Empires grew at their command, great cities being erected in their honor. The arts flourished, and Ikaiguchi was reborn.
With one act, this was all undone. Akane, jealous of her sister’s adoration, swept upon Akane’s Temple of the Sun, razing it to the ground. When Akane struck back, it was with her lover Saion by her side, and the mountains wept as fire burned their peaks.
Only the earth records the remaining violence of the Second Age. As the Gods marched to war, temples, libraries, and cities were set ablaze, and so almost nothing is known about the period, as humanity focused on survival above all else. Great scars, ruins, and devotional items are the only sources allowing inference of the true immense cost of the wars.
What is clear, however, is that every Shin’rei had a part to play in the slaughter. The fury with which they’d fought the Endless War of the First Age was turned on Ikaiguchi, and for centuries it seemed the islands would not survive.
