After the Shin’rei Tengoku Amare’s victory, he turned to his people. It is said he described a world in which the forces of light and darkness were in constant struggle, ever since the serpents dueled in the sky, with himself as “darkness dancing in the light”. His words were painstakingly recorded by the chief of his disciples, Kanoku Ueno, becoming the first, most ornate, copy of the Kotoba.
This compilation of divine words held such sway that it attracted many followers. In time, these followers became the Kioku, who sealed the text deep within their library inside Kūsho Shinzō.
The Kotoba both reinforces and contradicts myths and history of the period. For example, within its pages, it states that Junrei grew the first tree, prompting such jealousy from Tengoku Amare that the latter grew the tree known as the Jobboko. This has caused some within the Kioku to speculate that the Shin’rei were here before, in some ancient time that the world has forgotten.
