The Night of Falling Stars

-1490 T-K

The legends say there was a time when every single star trapped within the night sky fell to the land, burning through the sky as they streaked towards impact. The brutality of those concussive blows caused tidal waves and reshaped the contours of the coastline as they tore cliffs away from the land, and sank at least one settlement beneath the waves. With each of the stars that fell, the Shin’rei Tengoku Amare reclaimed a little piece of himself, growing stronger and stronger until he was more than a match for the Moon’s Eye, his ancient rival, and her slew it on that night. Still, though, the aftermath of their battle can be witnessed in the ebb and flow of the tides as they claw at the land—a perfect reflection of Tengoku Amare’s jealousy.

Modern scholars wonder if this tale is an explanation for the tsunamis that destroyed cities on the western coast in this period but note that tradition dictates that these waves are caused by Chinami. It is, however, indisputable that the stars really did fall to earth; even outside Ikaiguchi, depictions of a night sky lit by countless shooting stars stem from this year exactly.
