The Final Battle

-1000 T-K

As the atrocities of the Endless War burned themselves into the histories of Ikaiguchi, the Shin’rei increased the strength of their assaults on their ancient foes. Losses were heavy at first, with many of the Shin’rei’s disciples falling and their Shin’rei themselves obtaining injuries.

In desperation, the Shin’rei gave out a call that echoed through realities. Now was the time to fight. The warriors of the Shin’rei rallied, riding to the last battleground of the age.

In the depths of the ocean, a body reformed. As currents surged and tides grew strange, shapes in the deep gathered themselves together. From her ancient sorrow rose Chinami, nagatina in hand, ready to honor her ancient siblings.

Trees cracked as a body broke itself free from their roots. Though his wandering had long ago come to an end, Junrei could feel the corruption of the world, and now, in its hour of need, put aside his rage and grief for the sake of the future.

And so they were seven once again. Only the ever-outsider Hebinomichi was absent, having long ago turned his back upon the Shin’rei and began to follow his own path. The others had returned in glory. With these returned titans at their sides, the forces of the Shin’rei charged upon the heartland of the Norowareta once more.

And once more they died.

The ancient enemy were ready, and their spears pierced true. Worse, through the lines of the dead came larger entities, ones that challenged the Shin’rei. Outnumbered, the Shin’rei were pushed back across an isthmus, and in that marshland, the Norowareta hoped to cut them all down.

But as the killing blow was being readied, Hebinomichi returned in a storm of violence. The Master of the Serpent Path had turned his back on his siblings many centuries ago, but, in the Shin’rei’s hour of need, he had returned.

Together, he and the other Shin’rei triumphed. Their ancient enemies would not be seen for centuries, and immense temples were erected in celebration. This new world they had forged was one of peace, and nature reclaimed some of the scars of combat as celebrations echoed in the streets.
